Bodensee Shipping Company Engine overhaul

INITIAL SITUATION: During the winter months, when the cruise ships of the White Fleet are no longer travelling on Lake Constance, the shipyard workers are busy. Maintenance work is due on each of the 16 ships at the end of the season. SCHILLING aluminium gantry cranes and lifting beams are used for particularly heavy work.

SOLUTION: When overhauling the engine of the „Stuttgart“, the 1.8 tons engines were removed with the help of a gantry crane from SCHILLING and moved upwards. The mobile gantry crane is set up in the intermediate deck, where it ensures maximum safety and a perfect working environment despite the limited space available – our space-saving and flexible gantry cranes are exactly the right tool for such tasks.

RESULT: By using SCHILLING mobile gantry cranes, installation and removal times can be significantly reduced. Occupational safety for the employees involved is always guaranteed thanks to the certified crane systems. Just in time for the Christmas market in the city of Konstanz, the engines have to be reinstalled in the MS Stuttgart after a successful overhaul – the cruise is then back in service as a Christmas market cruise.
